Muslim Council of Elders Highlights Loyalty to Nation as Religious Duty Amidst Security Concerns

Manama: The Muslim Council of Elders, led by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al Azhar, has emphasized the critical importance of national loyalty as a religious duty, especially in the context of recent developments in the Arab world. This statement comes as several countries, including the Kingdom of Bahrain, have taken action to dismantle cells and groups linked to foreign actors, posing challenges to national security and stability.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Council affirmed that the protection of nations and the preservation of their stability and unity are central to the objectives of Islamic law. Loyalty to one's homeland and respect for its sovereignty and institutions are deemed essential religious and moral obligations, which must not be compromised by external allegiances.

The Council's statement highlights that Islam defines the relationship between individuals and their nations on the basis of honoring commitments, ensuring security, and safeguarding lives and property. Any actions that threaten societal security or promote division are seen as contrary to Islamic principles and values.

Furthermore, the Council warned against exploiting sectarian or doctrinal affiliations for external political purposes, viewing such actions as significant deviations from the ethical foundations of Islamic law. It called for a collective rejection of divisive ideologies and emphasized the need for individuals and institutions to maintain their loyalty within the framework of the nation-state.

The Muslim Council of Elders concluded by stating that addressing political sectarianism and hate speech is a shared religious and national responsibility. It advocated for the promotion of values such as citizenship, coexistence, and unity to protect national security and ensure societal stability and cohesion.
