Guinea Confirms 112 Monkeypox Cases with No Fatalities

Conakry: Guinea's National Agency for Health Security has confirmed 112 cases of monkeypox, with no reported deaths, as containment efforts continue in the capital, Conakry, and surrounding areas.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Sory Cond©, Director General of the agency, reported during a weekly meeting that Guinea is currently managing seven active epidemics. These include monkeypox, diphtheria, polio, rabies, COVID-19, measles, and Lassa fever.

Dr. Cond© emphasized that the monkeypox outbreak, the most recent in the country, was introduced via maritime borders from Sierra Leone, leading to an increase in cases in Conakry. Despite its high contagion rate, the agency confirmed there have been no fatalities as a result of monkeypox.

The agency also identified diphtheria as the second most concerning outbreak, especially among children, due to its impact on respiratory health and the urgent medical care it necessitates. Health authorities have urged the public to seek prompt medical attention for affected individuals to prevent further complications.
