Brussels: Sales of electric and hybrid cars in the European Union (EU) continued to grow in May, with battery electric vehicle sales increasing by 43% compared with the same month last year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association.
According to Bahrain News Agency, new passenger car registrations in the EU rose by 2.3% year on year to 955,013 vehicles. The figures showed that sales of petrol and diesel vehicles declined by around one fifth, while sales of battery electric and hybrid vehicles continued to increase.
Among major EU markets, car sales in Germany rose by 0.1% in May, while France recorded an increase of 3.7% and Italy 7.6%. In Spain, new car registrations declined by 0.8%.
