Manama: The Interior Ministry announced that the Coast Guard had handled a report that a Bahraini fishing boat carrying three people had been robbed while in the northern area of the Kingdom of Bahrain. According to Bahrain News Agency, the boat was taken by surprise by another boat carrying a number of armed individuals, who fired warning shots without causing any injuries. This left the crew no opportunity to send a distress call before the boat and its contents were seized, and they were left at sea, where a boat that happened to be near the area transported them to a Coast Guard point, where the safety of the three individuals was confirmed. The Coast Guard stated that all necessary legal procedures regarding the incident had been taken. The Coast Guard urged all seagoers to exercise caution when sailing in the area and to ensure that the boat's Automatic Identification System (AIS) remains operational while at sea, allowing distress calls to be made and assistance to be provided when necessary.
