Bahrain’s Parliamentary Delegation Engages in GCC Coordination Meeting at 20th PUIC Conference

Baku: Bahrain's parliamentary division delegation participated in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) coordination meeting, on the sidelines of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States. MP Ahmed Sabah Al Salloom, head of the Bahrain Parliamentary Division delegation, highlighted the importance of continuing coordination and consultation among Gulf parliaments to strengthen joint parliamentary action and unify positions on various issues and topics of common interest.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the regular Gulf meetings held on the sidelines of regional and international parliamentary forums represent an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation and integration among GCC legislative councils and to exchange views on issues included on the agendas of parliamentary conferences and meetings. He noted that such meetings support the common interests of the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and strengthen their parliamentary presence on the international stage.

The meeting approved a mechanism for selecting GCC representatives to the Executive Committee. Participants agreed to maintain the membership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the Executive Committee, with the second GCC seat to be filled by a GCC member state according to the alphabetical rotation among GCC member states.

It also reviewed mechanisms for Gulf coordination and consensus on nominations to the standing committees, in a manner that enhances the effectiveness of GCC participation in the Union's activities and supports the representation of Gulf legislative councils on its committees and parliamentary bodies. Participants discussed the items on the agenda of the Union's Executive Committee, in addition to the topics included on the agenda of the 20th Session of the Union's General Committee.
