Azerbaijan: The Executive Council of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) has appointed Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain, to the role of Acting Secretary General of the APA Interim Secretariat.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the decision was made during a meeting of the APA Executive Council held on the sidelines of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States. MP Ahmed Al Salloom, representing the APA Presidency, stated that Bahrain, as the President of the APA, activated Article 14 and Rule 41 of the APA Charter and Rules of Procedure. This move aligns with decisions made during the coordination meeting at the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul, aimed at facilitating the Assembly's work and enhancing communication with member parliaments.

The Executive Council praised the efforts of Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, for his dedication to strengthening the Asian Group's role in international forums and parliamentary engagements, while ensuring the APA Secretariat's work continues smoothly.

Al Salloom stressed the importance of maintaining the Assembly's operations and the implementation of its programmes and meetings. This initiative is intended to ensure APA activities persist without disruption amid the current regional circumstances, underscoring the Presidency's dedication to advancing joint Asian parliamentary action and improving coordination among member states.

Members of the Executive Council also underscored the need for ongoing coordination and consultation among member states to maintain the continuity of the APA's work, bolster its role in supporting Asian parliamentary cooperation, and encourage the exchange of expertise and perspectives among member parliaments.
