Manama: The Arab Federation for Human Rights (AFHR), representing 43 international human rights organisations, affirmed its support for the sovereign measures undertaken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to safeguard its security and stability.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Federation’s stance follows remarks delivered by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which outlined a national vision for addressing challenges and confronting threats targeting the Kingdom. Isa Al Arabi, President of AFHR and the Together for Human Rights Association, stated that amid regional circumstances and attempts to target Bahrain’s security and sovereignty, the Federation commended the firm messages in His Majesty’s remarks, reflecting a position rooted in protecting the state and its people.
Al Arabi emphasized that His Majesty’s assertion that the nation stands above all, and that Bahrain is a trust borne by its citizens, represents a constitutional and moral principle. This draws a distinction between genuine national belonging and acts of treason, including cooperation with hostile forces. He noted that His Majesty’s description of Iranian aggression underscores the need to confront interference in sovereign states’ affairs.
Al Arabi affirmed the Federation’s support for Bahrain’s legal measures, including revoking nationality from those guilty of undermining national security. He noted these measures align with international law, particularly the right of states to protect their security and society from threats.
He stressed that national sovereignty is a cornerstone of the international system, requiring a legal response to protect the state, preserve sovereignty, and maintain stability. He highlighted His Majesty’s clarification that such measures are safeguards for loyal citizens, ensuring stability and preventing escalation, balancing the rule of law and security requirements.
Al Arabi added that aligning with hostile forces or cooperating with them constitutes a grave act of treason, stripping individuals of moral and political legitimacy. He stressed legislative institutions must defend the nation and must not become platforms for those justifying aggression against Bahrain.
He called for a comprehensive review of human rights institutions to strengthen accountability, rejecting neutrality within these institutions. Al Arabi stressed the need for clear positions reflecting genuine loyalty, noting safeguarding Bahrain’s security is a collective responsibility.
The Arab Federation for Human Rights concluded by commending Bahrain’s government efforts in strengthening security and law, supporting measures to protect society from threats. It reiterated full support for Bahrain’s leadership and people, affirming Bahrain’s security as integral to Arab and Gulf security.
