Manama: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the United States held a significant Ministerial Meeting in Manama, co-chaired by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting underscored the enduring U.S. commitment to GCC security and reinforced the strategic partnership between the U.S. and GCC. The Ministers welcomed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the United States and Iran, recognizing the mediation roles of Pakistan and Qatar. They stressed the importance of maintaining momentum and unity in negotiations to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and address threats like ballistic missiles and regional proxies.
The Ministers highlighted the necessity of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the importance of free and unrestricted navigation. They rejected any attempts to control the Strait and welcomed an evacuation plan for stranded seafarers announced by the Sultanate of Oman and the International Maritime Organization.
Trade and investment with Iran were discussed as conditional, contingent on Iran's compliance with the MOU and cessation of destabilizing behavior. The Ministers expressed support for Syria's sovereignty and emphasized assistance for countering terrorism and enabling refugee returns. They reaffirmed commitment to Lebanon's stability and welcomed U.S.-facilitated negotiations with Israel for lasting peace.
The Ministers endorsed President Trump's Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, emphasizing demilitarization of non-state armed groups and supporting Gaza's reconstruction. They opposed West Bank annexation and stressed creating conditions for Palestinian self-determination.
Condemnation of Iranian proxy attacks in Iraq was reiterated, with support for Iraq's efforts to control weapons and prevent threats. Respect for Kuwait's sovereignty was reaffirmed, emphasizing Iraq's obligations to protect diplomatic missions and uphold commitments.
The meeting highlighted regional cooperation and strategic commitments to address security challenges and promote peace and stability in the region.
