Manama: The Head of the Terrorist Crimes Prosecution stated that the High Criminal Court issued its ruling today against a defendant convicted of seeking collaboration and communicating with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist organization, obtaining classified information, and providing it to a foreign state with the intent of carrying out terrorist operations against the Kingdom of Bahrain and harming its interests. The defendant was also convicted of advocating and supporting terrorist acts and operations against the Kingdom of Bahrain. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment and ordered the confiscation of seized items.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the case details date back to information confirmed by investigations conducted by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science. These investigations indicated that the Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist organization had recruited the defendant, who was inside the Kingdom of Bahrain, to carry out terrorist operations inside Bahrain after he sought to join the organization. He was tasked with sending information, images, and video clips related to the results of the blatant Iranian aggression against Bahrain to electronic accounts operated from within the Islamic Republic of Iran under the supervision of the IRGC and Iranian intelligence agencies, in a manner benefiting the enemy and threatening the security and safety of Bahrain and the lives of citizens and residents.
Upon receiving the report, the Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation into the case. The defendant was questioned and provided detailed confessional statements regarding the charges against him. Witness testimonies were heard, and technical experts were assigned to examine the seized electronic devices. Examination results confirmed the defendant's involvement in the charges attributed to him. Accordingly, the Public Prosecution ordered his detention and referred the case to the High Criminal Court, which issued the ruling during today's session.
The case was heard over several sessions during which all due process guarantees were observed, including the presence of the defendant's lawyer and granting him the opportunity to present his defense, within the framework of full commitment to fair trial standards.
The Public Prosecution stressed that protecting the supreme interests of the Kingdom of Bahrain and preserving its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity are national duties mandated by law. It added that communicating or collaborating with foreign entities or states or acting in their interests in a manner that harms state security or undermines its independence constitutes a crime against state security punishable under criminal law.
The Public Prosecution affirmed its continued firm response to all acts that threaten the country's security and stability, and its determination to prosecute all those proven to be involved through participation, incitement, or facilitation, considering them serious crimes punishable under the law by severe penalties that may reach the death sentence.
