Social Development Minister Leads Inaugural Meeting of Reformed National Committee for the Elderly

Manama: Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Minister of Social Development and Chairman of the National Committee for the Elderly, chaired the committee's first meeting of 2026 following its reformation, attended by representatives of relevant government entities and civil society organisations. The meeting aimed to address the needs and welfare of the elderly population in Bahrain.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister emphasised continued efforts to strengthen elderly care and develop services and programmes that improve their quality of life and reinforce their place in society. He highlighted the Kingdom of Bahrain's continued commitment to providing care, support and protection for the elderly.

Al Alawi stressed the importance of coordination among relevant entities to develop initiatives and services that meet the needs of the elderly and promote their participation and integration in society. The committee reviewed statistics and data on the elderly in Bahrain, services provided by care institutions, and the programmes and services offered by elderly day care centres.

The committee also discussed priorities for the coming period, focusing on coordination among relevant entities, developing elderly care and services, and promoting their active participation in society.
