UAE Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation Confirms Barakah Plant Safety Following Drone Attack

Abu dhabi: The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) of the United Arab Emirates reported that it continues to monitor the repercussions of the fire that broke out in an electrical generator located outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region following a drone attack.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the authority confirmed that the incident had no impact on the safety of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant or the readiness of its essential systems, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported. It stressed that no radioactive material was released and that radiological safety levels remain within normal ranges, with no risk posed to the public or the environment. No injuries were reported.

The authority noted that it continues close coordination with the plant operator and relevant national authorities to verify all aspects of the incident and ensure the continued safety and readiness of the plant's systems as part of its independent regulatory oversight responsibilities.

It added that the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant was designed, licensed, and operated in accordance with the highest international standards of nuclear safety and security, with multiple independent layers of protection incorporated into all aspects of the plant's design and operation.

The authority emphasised that protecting the public, workers, and the environment remains its top priority, and urged the public to rely on official sources for accurate information and avoid circulating rumours or unverified reports.
