Manama: Team Bahrain continued its strong performances at the 4th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Games, increasing its medal tally to 55 medals at the end of the sixth day of competition.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain's medal tally now stands at 23 gold, 20 silver, and 12 bronze medals after securing 10 additional medals on the sixth day, including five gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. Bahrain's athletics team concluded its participation at Qatar Sports Club Stadium with nine medals, including five gold medals.
Bahrain celebrated a double win in the women's 200m race, with Raihanah Garoubah clinching gold and Aysha Abdullah securing silver. In the men's 200m race, Ali Haji added a bronze to the tally. Noora Jassim claimed gold in the women's shot-put event. The men's 5000m race saw another double victory for Bahrain as Abdul Ghani Hameed won gold and Dawit Fikadu took silver.
The third double win for Bahrain occurred in the women's 1500m race, with Nelly Korir capturing gold and Tigest Mekonen earning silver. Bahrain's women's runners also triumphed in the women's 400m relay, securing another gold medal.
In table tennis, Rayyan Rashid earned a bronze medal in the women's singles competition. However, the men's doubles team, Rashid Sanad and Mohammed Abbas, had to withdraw due to injury.
In padel, Bahrain's men's and women's teams faced defeats against Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, respectively. Additionally, Bahrain's snooker players exited the 15-ball singles competition as they prepare for the upcoming team events.
In volleyball, Bahrain achieved a 3-0 victory over the UAE, bolstering its campaign to compete for the title.
