Kuwait Interior Ministry: Infiltrators Admit IRGC Links, Hostile Mission Against Kuwait

Kuwait city: The Interior Ministry in the State of Kuwait announced that four individuals arrested over an attempted maritime infiltration into Kuwait had admitted during investigations to belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to Bahrain News Agency, the suspects confessed to being tasked by the IRGC with infiltrating Boubyan Island on May 1 aboard a rented fishing boat to carry out a mission involving hostile acts targeting the State of Kuwait. The ministry identified the detainees as naval captains Amir Hussein Zaraei and Abdulsamad Qanawati, naval lieutenant Ahmad Jamshid Gholam, and army lieutenant Mohammad Hussein.

It added that the group exchanged fire with Kuwaiti armed forces stationed on Boubyan Island, resulting in the injury of a member of the armed forces while carrying out his duties. Two other members of the group reportedly fled during the confrontation: naval lieutenant Mansour Qambari and boat captain Abdulali Siamari.

The Interior Ministry said all necessary legal measures had been taken in accordance with applicable procedures, stressing the readiness of all ministry sectors, in coordination with relevant security authorities and the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, to confront any hostile acts targeting Kuwait's security and stability. The statement follows remarks issued on May 3 by Kuwait's Ministry of Defense spokesperson, Colonel Staff Saud Al Atwan, who said the armed forces had thwarted an attempted maritime infiltration through Kuwaiti territorial waters and arrested four individuals attempting to enter the country illegally by sea before referring them to the competent authorities.
