Manama: Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), has issued Decision (6) of 2025 to establish a women's committee within the media sector.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the decision follows a meeting held by the SCW with media personnel in April to present the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women 2025 - 2026. This initiative underscores the media's significant role in showcasing Bahrain's achievements and the progress of Bahraini women.
The new committee's objectives include assessing the status of Bahraini women in the media, enhancing their role as partners in national development, and fostering collaboration with media institutions. It aims to improve positive media portrayals of women and empower female media professionals through leadership and skills development.
The committee will examine the situation of women in the media sector from legislative and regulatory perspectives, ensuring equal opportunities and gender balance in specialised roles. It will analyse media content related to women's representation in various formats, offering recommendations where necessary. The committee also seeks to promote a positive image of Bahraini women by featuring success stories in both local and international media.
Furthermore, the committee is tasked with proposing mechanisms for coordination with media institutions to strengthen women's roles in the sector. It will recommend training and educational programs to build the capacities and skills of female media professionals. Additionally, the committee will devise plans to engage with media outlets to promote the initiatives of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women.
The committee members will serve a renewable term of two years, consisting of individuals with expertise relevant to the committee's objectives. The Secretary-General of the SCW will issue a decision regarding the formation of the committee and the organisation of its work.
