Egypt Welcomes Ceasefire Agreement Between Iran and Israel

Manama: The Arab Republic of Egypt welcomed the announcement made by His Excellency President Donald Trump of the United States regarding the ceasefire agreement reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Israel.

According to Bahrain News Agency, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt described the agreement as a pivotal development toward containing the recent escalation witnessed in the region, marking a potential turning point toward ending the military confrontation between the two nations and restoring calm and stability.

The statement affirmed that this step constitutes a genuine opportunity to halt the cycle of escalation and reciprocal attacks, while creating a conducive environment for the resumption of political and diplomatic efforts.

Egypt called on both the Israeli and Iranian parties to fully adhere to the ceasefire agreement, exercise the utmost restraint during this critical phase, and take all necessary measures to promote de-escalation and safeguard regional security, stability, and the well-being of their peoples.

The Ministry emphasized that while Egypt values this important step toward calm, it has consistently called for a ceasefire and de-escalation throughout its intensive direct engagements with all relevant regional and international stakeholders, including the parties to the conflict, over the past weeks.

The statement reiterated Egypt's continued commitment to pursuing its diplomatic efforts in coordination with regional and international partners to reinforce the ceasefire and advance the de-escalation path, ultimately aiming to reach a comprehensive and sustainable resolution to the crises threatening regional stability.

Egypt also reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause remains at the heart of the regional conflict, underscoring that a just and comprehensive settlement that fulfills the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people remains the only viable path to achieving lasting peace and security in the region and beyond, through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
