Manama: As part of the Kingdom of Bahrain's presidency of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, chaired the extraordinary meeting of the GCC Ministers of Transport and Communications, held via videoconference.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting was attended by ministers and officials responsible for transport, ports, and logistics sectors in GCC countries. It focused on reviewing regional developments and their impact on transport movement and supply chains, as well as discussing ways to enhance joint coordination to ensure the smooth flow of goods and passengers across GCC states.
At the outset, the Minister emphasized the need for strengthened cooperation and unity among GCC states in light of ongoing regional threats. He highlighted the importance of consolidating GCC integration in transport and logistics to ensure the continuity of supply chains and the movement of strategic goods. He also underscored the necessity of enhancing readiness to address emergencies, safeguarding the security and stability of GCC countries, and supporting joint GCC action.
Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC, expressed appreciation for the meeting's timing, affirming the importance of continued efforts to develop transport systems and enhance infrastructure and logistics services. He stressed the need for intensified efforts to accelerate joint projects, exchange expertise, and coordinate policies to achieve shared interests.
The meeting reviewed current operational conditions in land and maritime transport sectors, focusing on freight movement and strategic goods transportation. Discussions included the status of border crossings and measures to facilitate transit, contributing to the efficient flow of essential goods and supply chain enhancement across GCC countries.
Participants also explored means to activate joint mechanisms, such as simplifying procedures at ports and border crossings, utilizing alternative transport routes, and strengthening logistical connectivity. The adoption of modern technologies to expedite clearance and inspection procedures was highlighted as essential for maintaining high levels of readiness and responsiveness to regional developments.
The meeting concluded with an affirmation of the importance of continued coordination and consultation among GCC countries, aiming to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of transport and logistics systems and maintain the smooth flow of trade and supply chains during the current phase.
