Manama: Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, participated in a workshop at the Bahrain Logistics Zone (BLZ) organized by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT). The workshop aimed to engage stakeholders from both public and private sectors in developing a shared vision and proposing practical initiatives for the Kingdom's national maritime strategy.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the workshop focused on fostering collective commitment to the implementation steps necessary to advance Bahrain's maritime strategy. The Minister highlighted the nation's confident strides toward building an integrated maritime system that aligns with global developments and strengthens Bahrain's role as a trade and logistics hub in the region. This effort is a vital part of achieving the goals set out in Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
The National Maritime Strategy aims to make the maritime sector a significant driver of national prosperity. This will be achieved by enhancing ports and logistics infrastructure, attracting strategic investments, and integrating smart digital solutions for supply chains and maritime trade. Public and private stakeholders will collaborate closely to implement the strategy, which also emphasizes sustainability through best environmental practices and technological innovations like automation and AI-driven planning.
The workshop covered six main pillars that provide a comprehensive framework for developing an integrated maritime system. These include upgrading maritime infrastructure to meet commercial needs, enhancing corridors connecting Bahrain to the Gulf region, preparing for the future railway network integration, and developing cruise ship facilities. Additionally, the strategy focuses on strengthening governance, financing frameworks, and human capital development to ensure the maritime sector's ongoing growth and sustainability.
