Yeosu: A fishing trawler sank early Sunday in waters off South Korea's southern coast, resulting in the death of three individuals and leaving seven others missing.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the 139-ton vessel, which had 14 crew members on board, was reported missing at 1:41 AM. The incident occurred approximately 17 kilometers east of the island of Habaek, near Yeosu, which is situated 316 kilometers south of Seoul.
Rescue operations by Coast Guard vessels and other fishing boats led to the rescue of seven crew members, comprising three South Koreans and four foreigners. Unfortunately, all three South Korean individuals, including the 66-year-old captain of the vessel, did not survive.
One of the foreign sailors reported that the trawler had capsized due to adverse wind and wave conditions. Authorities, however, are planning to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident.
In an effort to locate the missing crew members, the Coast Guard has deployed 23 vessels and eight aircraft, with additional support from other agencies and fishing boats.
