South Korea and Japan Pledge Cooperation on Nuclear Disarmament and Trade

Busan: South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and outgoing Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba have reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula and pledged to cooperate amid changes in the global trade order. The leaders made these affirmations during summit talks held in the southeastern city of Busan.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the two leaders emphasized the importance of closer coordination in response to geographical shifts and changes in the global trade system. They also discussed expanding cooperation into new areas, including collaboration on Arctic shipping routes.

In addition to these commitments, Lee and Ishiba agreed to continue discussions on a variety of issues such as low birth rates, an ageing population, balanced national development, agriculture, disaster prevention, and suicide prevention.

Following the summit, the two countries issued a joint document outlining the operation of consultative groups aimed at addressing shared social challenges.
