SEC and Hitachi Energy Collaborate to Implement Eco-Friendly Technology

Riyadh: In a significant move towards enhancing sustainability in Saudi Arabia's electricity sector, the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hitachi Energy. This agreement aims to adopt advanced technology for electrical switches and circuit breakers that do not use sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), a known greenhouse gas.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the partnership represents a shared commitment between SEC and Hitachi Energy to develop sustainable energy solutions that support the transition to clean energy and aim to reduce emissions. The move is aligned with national efforts to shift towards cleaner energy sources and reduce the environmental impact of energy systems.

The proposed technology under this MoU introduces environmentally friendly alternatives for producing high- and medium-voltage electrical switches and circuit breakers. These alternatives use substitutes for SF6 gas as an insulating medium, ensuring the same quality, performance, and safety requirements while contributing to the reduction of global warming caused by greenhouse gases.

The collaboration underscores the SEC's ongoing efforts to enhance its infrastructure with technologies that are environmentally considerate, aiming to lead the way in adopting clean energy solutions within the region.
