SCH Chairman Inaugurates Newborn Hearing Screening Clinic at SMC

Manama: Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), has inaugurated a specialised clinic for newborn hearing screening at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC). Dr. Mariam Athbi Al Jalahma, CEO of Government Hospitals, was in attendance at the event, highlighting the significance of this healthcare advancement.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the launch of the clinic is a testament to Bahrain's commitment to enhancing child healthcare, ensuring that newborns benefit from early detection services in line with international best practices. This initiative forms part of broader efforts to safeguard children's healthy development from the earliest stages of life.

Dr. Mariam Khalil Sahwan, Chairperson of the ENT and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, noted that the clinic will facilitate the early diagnosis of hearing impairments using advanced technology. She stressed that timely intervention is crucial in reducing the risk of delays in speech, language, and auditory development, marking a significant step in advancing paediatric care in Bahrain.

The new service is set to raise the quality of healthcare services provided and ensure access to appropriate treatment. It aligns with the Kingdom's objective to achieve its health-related Sustainable Development Goals. The inauguration is part of Government Hospitals' ongoing efforts to expand preventive screening and paediatric services, adhering to international healthcare standards and contributing to the overall improvement of healthcare and quality of life in the Kingdom.
