Omani Interior Minister Visits Open Prisons Complex in Bahrain

Manama: As part of his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior of Oman, accompanied by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, visited the Open Prisons Complex.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, provided an overview of the facilities and services at the complex. The overview highlighted Bahrain's commitment to meeting international standards in human rights and ensuring comprehensive support for beneficiaries.

A briefing was presented on the positive outcomes of expanding the implementation of the Alternative Sentences and Measures Law and the Open Prisons Programme. It also highlighted the launch of new rehabilitation and training initiatives for participants. The programme stands as a landmark in Bahrain's human rights progress, under the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to implement the initiative in line with international standards.

The briefing outlined the objectives and achievements of the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons programmes. These programmes offer educational, training, and reform initiatives aimed at rehabilitating inmates, correcting behaviour, and supporting their gradual reintegration into society.

The Omani Interior Minister and his delegation toured the complex, viewing its educational facilities equipped with modern systems, residential units designed to meet daily needs, and a sports club building that supports the comprehensive rehabilitation of beneficiaries.

For his part, Al Busaidi praised Bahrain's achievements in promoting human rights. He expressed appreciation to the Minister of Interior for his efforts in developing and expanding reform programmes and implementing alternative sentencing, which have a positive social impact.
