Cairo: Polling stations in Egypt began to receive voters casting their ballots in the first phase of the House of Representatives election.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the first phase of the electoral process includes 14 governorates, with a total of 35,279,922 eligible voters distributed across 5,606 subcommittees within 70 electoral districts.
This phase features 1,281 candidates competing for individual seats, along with one electoral list contesting the list-based seats in the West Delta and the Central, Southern, and Northern Upper Egypt constituencies.
The electoral process is being monitored by numerous international missions and organisations, including the League of Arab States, the African Union, the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation, the Arab Organisation for Electoral Management Bodies, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, in addition to local civil society organisations and local, Arab, and international media outlets.
Egyptians living abroad cast their votes at Egyptian embassies and consulates in 117 countries around the world on Friday and Saturday.
The second phase of the House of Representatives election will take place on November 21 and 22 for Egyptians abroad and on November 24 and 25 domestically, covering 13 governorates.
