Geneva: Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication of Morocco, and Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the realm of intellectual property. The agreement particularly emphasizes copyright and related rights and seeks to bolster the legal protection of Morocco's rich cultural heritage.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the MoU was signed during Morocco's participation in the WIPO General Assemblies held in Switzerland. The agreement outlines a framework for Morocco to leverage WIPO's expertise in intellectual property matters. It also includes plans to adopt new legal concepts such as resale rights and reproduction rights, integrating these into Morocco's existing systems through the WIPOCONNECT platform.
A significant aspect of the MoU is the international promotion of "Label Maroc," a move that will help Morocco enhance the legal safeguarding of its cultural heritage. This initiative will be undertaken within the framework of the Moroccan Office of Intellectual Property, providing a robust mechanism for the protection of the nation's cultural assets.
