Manama: The Ministry of Interior has confirmed that all necessary precautionary and preventive measures have been implemented ahead of the second phase of technical repairs at the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) facility. This announcement follows the damage the facility sustained due to Iranian aggression, as detailed in a recent media briefing broadcast on Bahrain Television.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Ministry emphasized the importance of reviewing public safety procedures, particularly those concerning ammonia gas leaks, available on the National Civil Protection Platform. A designated 2-kilometre safety radius has been established around the affected area, encompassing institutions, facilities, and a limited section of Block 619 residential area. Residents within this zone have been informed of an optional evacuation, with alternative temporary accommodations being provided.
The Ministry reassured that all safety measures are in place to prevent any harmful material leaks. Public safety instructions include moving to a secure area inside the home, staying in an internal room, closing windows and doors, turning off ventilation systems, and placing wet towels under doors and windows to block contaminated air.
Residents are urged to cooperate with authorities and adhere to issued safety instructions, which prioritize their well-being. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens and residents through these comprehensive measures.
