Manama: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received His Excellency General Joseph Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic, at Gudaibiya Palace, marking a significant visit aimed at reinforcing the ties between Bahrain and Lebanon.
According to Bahrain News Agency, an official reception ceremony welcomed President Aoun, including the playing of both nations' anthems and a 21-gun salute. The meeting, attended by key Bahraini officials, underscored the mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation across various domains. Both leaders emphasized the importance of advancing Bahraini-Lebanese relations for the prosperity of their peoples.
His Majesty highlighted the historical ties and ongoing development between the two countries while discussing regional and international matters of interest. President Aoun expressed gratitude for Bahrain's support towards Lebanon's unity and stability, reinforcing the desire for strengthened cooperation.
The meeting also coincided with the 53rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Lebanon, prompting His Majesty to announce the establishment of a permanent Bahraini diplomatic mission in Beirut. This move aims to foster bilateral cooperation in mutual areas of interest.
A broader dialogue between the leaders and delegations followed, focusing on activating the joint committee to implement existing agreements and exploring new opportunities. His Majesty reiterated Bahrain's support for Lebanon's sovereignty and efforts to restore its role within the Arab world.
President Aoun acknowledged the enduring friendship and support from Bahrain, emphasizing the deep affection between the nations. He expressed hope for a full return of Bahrain's embassy to Lebanon and a resumption of trade and cooperation across various sectors.
The visit concluded with His Majesty hosting a luncheon in honor of President Aoun and his delegation, symbolizing the strength and goodwill between the two countries. The mission of honor for President Aoun was led by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
