Manama: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), engaged in a video conference meeting with Dr. Carla Barnett, Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), to address pressing security concerns and explore avenues for enhanced cooperation.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting began with discussions on the Iranian attacks targeting GCC states. Both leaders examined the implications of the escalating tensions and the direct threats posed to regional and international security. Dr. Barnett reiterated CARICOM's condemnation of the Iranian actions and expressed solidarity with the GCC states.
Albudaiwi expressed gratitude for CARICOM's supportive stance against the Iranian attacks. He emphasized the GCC's condemnation of these violations, which infringe upon the sovereignty of Council states and breach international laws. He called for an immediate halt to hostilities and urged Iran to comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.
The meeting further explored avenues to bolster cooperation between the GCC and Caribbean states. Discussions included the Memorandum of Understanding and the Joint Action Plan (2023-2027), focusing on political dialogue, trade facilitation, investment promotion, and tourism cooperation. Both sides aim to increase trade and investment flows, strengthening the relationship between the two regions.
