Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, welcomed the consensus adoption by the United Nations Human Rights Council of a resolution condemning the Iranian attacks targeting the territories of the Gulf Cooperation Council states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the resolution is described as a new achievement for Bahraini and Arab diplomacy and as a reflection of the international community’s firm rejection of these unjustified attacks and its commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and to preserving regional and international peace and stability.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that the adoption of the resolution by the Human Rights Council, in response to the initiative submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain on behalf of the GCC states and Jordan, and based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), reflects Bahrain’s distingui
shed international standing. This outcome is attributed to the diplomatic approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, emphasizing the Kingdom’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, respect for international legitimacy, and the promotion of regional and international peace and security.
Dr. Al Zayani pointed out that the resolution included a strong condemnation of the serious Iranian attacks carried out using missiles and drones, which targeted civilians, civilian objects, and vital infrastructure, including energy and industrial facilities, ports, services, residential areas, and diplomatic premises. He highlighted that these acts constituted a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, a clear breach of state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.
The Ministe
r underscored the importance of the resolution’s clear demands for the immediate and unconditional cessation of all unjustified Iranian attacks against countries in the region, including attempts to target maritime navigation and close vital waterways, notably the Strait of Hormuz, given the serious threat this poses to global energy supply chains and international trade. He also emphasized the call for Iran to fully comply with its obligations under international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly concerning the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and to cease its aggressive and provocative actions, including the use of proxies.
Dr. Al Zayani also highlighted the resolution’s call on Iran to provide full, effective, and prompt compensation for all human, material, and environmental losses resulting from these attacks, as well as its request to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to prepare a comprehensive report on the
impact of these attacks on human rights in the affected countries. He asserted that this would strengthen international accountability mechanisms and help ensure justice for those affected, urging the international community to take the necessary measures to prevent any recurrence of such attacks.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed Bahrain’s deep appreciation for the sincere and supportive positions expressed by more than 100 countries in support of the United Nations Human Rights Council resolution, following the co-sponsorship by 136 countries of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, issued on 11 March on a Bahraini initiative. He stated that this broad international consensus reflects the unity of the global position in condemning the unlawful Iranian attacks and underlines support for the sovereignty and independence of the GCC and Arab states, as well as the categorical rejection of any threats to their security and stability.
In conclusion, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani affirme
d that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty the King and the directives of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, will continue its national efforts to strengthen security and stability and protect the right to safety and security. He emphasized that this is grounded in the vigilance and efficiency of its defence and security forces, the unity and cohesion of its people, and its continued active diplomatic approach to advancing the principles of justice and international legitimacy, prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy in resolving disputes, and working with partners to build a future defined by security, peace, and sustainable development for the peoples of the region and the wider world.
