Washington: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended an event organised by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., focusing on securing critical energy supplies.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the event was attended by Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States, the accompanying delegation, as well as a number of CSIS members, experts, and researchers. The programme included a panel discussion with Doug Burgum, US Secretary of the Interior, which addressed the key objectives of the international cooperation framework for securing global supply chains of critical minerals, ways to enhance the security of global supplies, and the importance of cooperation in mining, processing, refining, investment, and policy coordination.
The discussion also highlighted the strategic role of critical minerals in supporting advanced technologies and commercial and defence industries, alongside the adoption of joint policies to strengthen cooperation in the securing, mining, and processing of these resources. In addition, the session reviewed the benefits to partner countries under the framework, including strengthened economic and industrial security, enhanced competitiveness, the creation of new investment opportunities in higher value-added activities, the promotion of innovation and knowledge transfer, and the development of more integrated and sustainable value chains, contributing to the stability of global markets in the medium and long term.
