Madrid: Professor Marike Patrani Paulsson, Secretary-General of the Bahrain International Dispute Resolution Council, participated in the International Council for Commercial Arbitration Judiciary Committee meeting, alongside committee members and Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, on the sidelines of the 27th Congress of the Council, taking place in Madrid from April 12 to 15.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting discussed the Committee's work to enhance awareness of the judicial role in international arbitration and the mechanisms for recognizing and enforcing arbitral awards, as well as the UNCITRAL Model Law, contributing to a more informed and cohesive approach to international dispute resolution.
The Committee's work is closely linked to Bahrain's prominent role in strengthening the international commercial arbitration framework in the region, including the New York Convention roadshows on the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, as well as Bahrain's active role in submitting proposals within the working groups of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.
Bahrain was the first country to host the regional New York Convention roadshow in 2014, and later co-hosted it again with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2024, further strengthening its contribution to judicial outreach and capacity building across the region. Professor Paulsson's participation reflects Bahrain's continued engagement with leading international arbitration institutions and its commitment to advancing dialogue between the judiciary, treaty bodies, and the international arbitration community.
