Coal Mine Collapses in Northwestern Turkey, Five Workers Trapped

Istanbul: A coal mine has collapsed in northwestern Turkey, trapping five workers underground, as reported by the Ihlas News Agency. The incident occurred at the Karadon mine, which is operated by the Turkish Coal Enterprises. The collapse took place 263 meters underground near the ventilation exit of the mine.

According to Bahrain News Agency, three of the trapped workers have been successfully rescued. Rescue, medical, firefighting, and gendarmerie teams have swiftly arrived at the site, and efforts are ongoing to save the remaining workers who are still trapped.

Turkey has a history of mining accidents, the most notable being the 2014 disaster in Soma, where an explosion resulted in over 300 fatalities and numerous injuries. Authorities are likely to review safety protocols in the wake of this recent incident to prevent future occurrences.
