China Launches Construction of High-Precision Telescope on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Delingha: China has initiated the construction of a significant astronomical observation project, the Xue-shan-mu-chang 15-meter SubMillimeter Telescope (XSMT), on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

According to Bahrain News Agency, this initiative is set to enhance China's capabilities in exploring the universe by establishing a high-precision facility. The telescope addresses a notable gap in the country's current astronomical infrastructure. With a diameter of 15 meters, it will be located in Delingha, northwest China's Qinghai Province, at an altitude of 4,800 meters.

The project is led by the Nanjing-based Purple Mountain Observatory under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is slated for completion in 2027, marking a significant advancement in China's astronomical research capabilities.
