Bahrain Leads Discussions in WCO Council Meetings

Manama: Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Customs President, led the Kingdom of Bahrain's delegation at the 147th and 148th sessions of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council meetings. The sessions focused on developing customs work, facilitating international trade, and enhancing global supply chain security.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain's participation in the WCO Council meetings underscores its commitment to international customs work. Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad emphasized that this involvement supports discussions on strategic issues such as customs development and global trade facilitation.

Bahrain continues to align its customs system with international standards by adopting quality initiatives and fostering cooperation with international customs organisations. These efforts aim to improve customs performance, facilitate trade, and support economic development while enhancing community security.

The council meetings addressed the strategic use of data in customs decision-making and control operations. Discussions also covered the future of customs in light of digital transformation and technological progress.

Participants deliberated on strengthening customs authorities' roles in combating drug smuggling and protecting communities from illicit trade risks. The integrity of global supply chains, private sector partnerships, and the WCO Strategic Plan 2025-2028 were also key topics.

The meetings included reviews of reports from the WCO's technical, financial, and administrative committees. Efforts to modernize the organisation's work and improve its institutional efficiency and financial sustainability were also discussed.
