WHO Reports Sharp Rise in Deaths from Malnutrition in Gaza

Geneva: The World Health Organisation (WHO) reported a dangerous rise in deaths related to severe malnutrition in the Gaza Strip, confirming the documentation of 21 children under the age of five who have died from hunger during the current year.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director General of WHO, stated at a press conference in Geneva that since July 17, severe acute malnutrition centres in Gaza have been operating at full capacity without adequate emergency supplies. He also highlighted that over two million people trapped in the enclave are facing the threat of mass starvation amid ongoing bombing and destruction.

Dr. Ghebreyesus emphasised that the hunger crisis is accelerating due to the collapse of aid lines and the complete blockade on the entry of humanitarian and commercial aid, which has prevented the UN and humanitarian partners from delivering any food to Gaza for 80 consecutive days from March until mid-May 2025.
