New york: Ambassador Khalid Yousif Al Jalahma, Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Claudia Banz, Director of Security Council Affairs Division at the United Nations, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York. Ambassador Al Jalahma expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain's appreciation for the Security Council Affairs Division's role in supporting Council members, reiterating Bahrain's commitment to contributing to the Council's efforts to enhance international peace and security.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting focused on advancing cooperation with the UN in training and capacity-building as Bahrain prepares for its Security Council membership for 2026-2027. This cooperation aims to enhance Bahrain's effective participation and role in supporting Council efforts.
The discussion also highlighted the Kingdom's priorities during its upcoming Security Council term. These include promoting peace and stability through dialogue and coexistence, commitment to international law and humanitarian work, and addressing both traditional and emerging security threats. Key areas of focus will include terrorism and extremism, cybersecurity, climate change, maritime security, and ensuring inclusive participation of women and youth.
The meeting was attended by Hatem Abdulhamid Hatem, Head of the Organisations Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
