UAE Strongly Condemns Drone Attack Targeting Barakah Nuclear Power Plant

Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack targeting an electricity generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region, carried out by a drone that entered the country's airspace from the west. No injuries were reported and there was no impact on radiation safety levels, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the attack represents a dangerous escalation, an unacceptable act of aggression, and a direct threat to the country's security.

The ministry stressed that targeting peaceful nuclear energy facilities constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and humanitarian principles, given the risks posed to civilians, the environment, and regional and international security.

It also emphasised that international standards and agreements, including principles and resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), underscore the need to protect peaceful nuclear facilities from hostile acts and military threats.

The UAE emphasised that it will not tolerate any threat to its security and sovereignty and reserves its right to respond in a manner that safeguards its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security, and the safety of its citizens, residents, and visitors, in accordance with international law.

The ministry also stressed that targeting civilian and vital infrastructure is rejected under all legal and humanitarian norms, calling for an immediate halt to such attacks and full compliance with the cessation of hostilities.
