UAE Deputy Prime Minister Condemns Attack on Barakah Nuclear Plant

Abu dhabi: His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, engaged in a telephone call with Rafael Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM). During the conversation, Sheikh Abdullah expressed strong condemnation of a terrorist attack that led to a fire at an electrical generator outside the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant's inner perimeter in the Al Dhafra Region. The incident occurred following a drone strike. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and there was no impact on radiological safety levels.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized that targeting civilian facilities and vital infrastructure is a clear violation of international law. He underscored the UAE's right to respond to such attacks and take necessary measures to safeguard its security, territorial integrity, and citizens, all in accordance with international law. Additionally, the discussion between Sheikh Abdullah and Grossi touched upon the cooperation between the UAE and the IAEA, exploring ways to enhance ties to support the peaceful use of nuclear energy. This cooperation aligns with the highest international standards of safety, security, and non-proliferation.

Sheikh Abdullah also reiterated the UAE's unwavering commitment to supporting the IAEA's role in promoting nuclear safety and security on both regional and international stages.
