Transportation Minister Participates in WSIS+20, AI for Good Global Summit

Switzerland: Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, participated in the WSIS+20 High-Level Event and the AI for Good Global Summit, held in Switzerland. The events focused on the future of digital transformation and means to harness artificial intelligence technologies to support sustainable development.

According to Bahrain News Agency, during the ministerial session of the AI for Good Global Summit, held under the theme "AI Foundations: Digital Trust and AI Infrastructure for All," the minister said Bahrain has demonstrated that success in building an advanced artificial intelligence ecosystem depends on a clear vision, effective policies, robust infrastructure, and strong partnerships. He noted that continued investment in advanced digital infrastructure, the telecommunications sector, and an enabling regulatory environment has enhanced Bahrain's position among leading digital economies and enabled the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies across key sectors.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed said this progress reflects close cooperation among government entities, regulatory authorities, telecommunications operators, and the private sector, underscoring the importance of continuing this partnership-based approach to promote innovation and accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies.

The Transportation Minister also highlighted the importance of cooperation among governments, technology providers, and telecommunications operators in supporting the artificial intelligence ecosystem through flexible regulatory frameworks, enhanced transparency and digital trust, and investment in digital skills and national capabilities to build sustainable and inclusive digital infrastructure capable of meeting future needs.

The session discussed means to develop secure and trusted digital infrastructure, strengthen digital trust, and enable countries to build national artificial intelligence capabilities in support of innovation and equitable access to the opportunities offered by these technologies.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed also participated in the WSIS Forum 2026, where discussions covered digital transformation, including artificial intelligence applications, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, digital inclusion, and the development of human-centred digital policies that support sustainable development.

The Transportation Minister reviewed the latest developments in connectivity, public digital infrastructure, and multilingual digital systems. Discussions also addressed emerging risks associated with the evolving digital landscape, including online safety, misinformation, data governance, and the widening digital divide, with a focus on enhancing multilateral efforts to formulate effective and sustainable responses to these challenges.
