Tourism Minister and UNWTO Secretary General Discuss Regional Tourism Cooperation

Manama: Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, met with Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, newly elected Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Tourism Minister emphasized the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to enhancing cooperation and unifying regional efforts to establish the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as a single, integrated tourist destination. This initiative aims to boost the region's global presence and competitiveness. She highlighted that collaboration with the UNWTO presents a significant opportunity to support tourism development.

Al Nowais praised Bahrain's rapid tourism growth, advanced infrastructure, and quality services. She expressed eagerness to achieve shared goals and develop projects that foster both regional and global tourism advancement, contributing to sustainable development.

The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation and supporting tourism initiatives and projects. It also discussed exchanging expertise, developing training programs for Bahraini tourism staff, and exploring opportunities for hosting major international tourism events in the Kingdom.
