Manama: The third edition of the Bahrain Psychiatry Conference opened under the patronage of Dr. Mariam Adhbi Al Jalahma, Chief Executive Officer of Government Hospitals.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the two-day conference, organized by the Government Hospitals in cooperation with Education Plus, is being held at the Gulf Hotel on October 9-10, in conjunction with World Mental Health Day.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Al Jalahma emphasized Bahrain's commitment to strengthening its mental health system in line with national health plans and strategies, noting that mental health is a core component of comprehensive healthcare. She highlighted the Government Hospitals' support for initiatives aimed at raising community awareness, enhancing knowledge, and promoting the exchange of expertise across health disciplines, commending national medical professionals' efforts in this field.
This year's conference focuses on mental health issues affecting women and children, underlining the importance of early support and a healthy environment that nurtures emotional well-being within families and communities. It features a comprehensive scientific program with participation from regional speakers and experts, who will discuss the latest developments in psychiatric diagnosis, treatment, and research.
Dr. Shaima Ali Bucheery, Conference Chair and Head of Medical Services at the Psychiatric Hospital, underscored the importance of promoting awareness of mental health concepts. She stated that the conference reflects Bahrain's commitment to supporting women and children throughout all stages of life and to ensuring a safe and healthy environment that enhances family and community well-being.
She added that the conference serves as a scientific platform for exchanging experiences and knowledge among specialists and contributes to unifying efforts to advance psychiatric services and integrate them with other medical disciplines.
