Supreme Council for Environment Announces Lifting of Seasonal Fishing Ban on Safi, Shaari, Andag

Manama: The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) has announced the lifting of a fishing ban on spangled Emperor (Shaari), rabbitfish (Safi), and seabream (Andag) from April 1 to May 31, as per Edict (2) of 2024.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Council stated that the measure is part of Bahrain's ongoing efforts to preserve marine resources and promote environmental sustainability. The initiative is also aimed at rehabilitating ecosystems and increasing both the quantity and diversity of marine life available in local markets.

The resolution stipulates that the ban on fishing these species in Bahrain's territorial waters will be enforced during the months of April and May each year. Fishermen who inadvertently catch these species during the ban period are required to release them back into the sea, ensuring their safety.

The Supreme Council for Environment highlighted the importance of community cooperation to ensure compliance with the decision, stressing that the regulation of fishing is a national responsibility.
