Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, received Rawhi Fattouh, Speaker of the Palestinian National Council, on the sidelines of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) meeting held in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The meeting was attended by Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, and Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary General of the Council of Representatives.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Speaker Al Musallam reiterated the Kingdom of Bahrain's firm position, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in supporting the Palestinian cause, achieving a just and comprehensive peace, and realising sustainable development at the regional and international levels.
The Speaker added that Bahrain, through its non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, places support for the Palestinian cause among its top priorities, and seeks to facilitate the Palestinian people's attainment of their legitimate right to establish an independent sovereign state in accordance with the two-state solution. He also noted the Arab and Asian parliamentary position in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The meeting discussed the longstanding relations between the Kingdom and Palestine, reflecting a strong historical legacy, and the continuous development of bilateral cooperation at all levels in service of their mutual interests.
On his part, Speaker Fattouh expressed the Palestinian people's appreciation and pride in Bahrain's efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, in supporting the Palestinian cause, its high diplomatic role, and the Kingdom's firm position in defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He also commended the efforts of Speaker Al Musallam in supporting and coordinating the Asian parliamentary position in backing the Palestinian cause in international parliamentary forums.
