Speaker Meets First Deputy Speaker of Jordanian House of Representatives in Istanbul

Istanbul: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, met with Dr. Khamis Atiyeh, First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Speaker Al Musallam commended the longstanding relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Jordan, highlighting the continued development of their strategic ties. He expressed pride in the progress achieved in both countries under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The Speaker emphasized the importance of continued parliamentary cooperation and coordination between the two legislative bodies, particularly in addressing current challenges and the ongoing Iranian attacks against GCC states and Jordan. He condemned these attacks, stressing that they pose a threat to regional security and peace, and called for a unified parliamentary stance from all parliaments.

Speaker Al Musallam noted that the emergency item submitted to the IPU General Assembly by Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates reflects a responsible parliamentary position, condemning attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and vital facilities. This stance is based on a UN Human Rights Council resolution condemning Iranian attacks on GCC states and Jordan, following Bahrain's initiative on behalf of the GCC and Jordan, as well as UN Security Council Resolution (2817), backed by 136 countries, marking the highest number of sponsors in the Council's history.

Dr. Atiyeh, on his part, reaffirmed Jordan's support for Bahrain in all its efforts and measures to confront Iranian attacks that have resulted in deaths and damage to civilians and their homes. He stated that these attacks are a violation of international law and the sovereignty of Arab states.
