SPE-UoB team wins PetroBowl regional qualifiers

University of Bahrain (UoB) President, Dr. Jawaher Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, has extended congratulations to the team of the Society of Petroleum Engineers-University of Bahrain Students Chapter (SPE-UoB) following their success in winning the first place in the regional qualification of the PetroBowl Competition.

The SPE-UoB team topped the contest, in which 24 universities across the Middle East and North Africa region competed, to reach the final of the event, organised annually by SPE.

Dr. Al-Mudhahki said that UoB and its colleges support the participation of their students in various events, in Bahrain or abroad, adding that they are keen to develop the skills of their students and motivate them to acquire more skills and knowledge.

Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Bahrain, Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, commended the advanced level showcased by UoB students, outscoring their counterparts from major MENA region universities, noting that this qualification clearly indicates the level of readiness of the students of the College of Engineering for the competition.

The SPE-UoB team, including Noor Khaleel Dhaif, Ameer Hussain Nasser, Talal Mohammed Al-Khalqi, Ali Yousif Shukrallj and Anwar Mohammed Al-Sebaie, will take part in the finals of the PetroBowl Competition, set to be held in Houston, Texas, in March 2022.

The PetroBowl® competition pitches SPE student chapter teams against each other in a series of quick-fire rounds, answering technical and nontechnical industry-related questions. The contest has grown in size and popularity since its debut in 2002, and in 2015 was taken global with the introduction of six regional qualifier contests.

Regional qualifier competitions take place in the Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, South America and Caribbean, Middle East, and North America SPE regions, and the top 32 teams are invited to the PetroBowl® Championship.
