Tashkent: A South Korea-developed carbon emissions map system will be introduced in Uzbekistan as part of an urban planning pilot project supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The initiative aims to utilize advanced technology in mapping emissions to enhance urban climate strategies in the region.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the carbon emissions map system was developed by Sundosoft, a Seoul-based geographic information system firm. The system, which is part of the South Korean ministry's research and development programme, will be implemented following a contract signing between Sundosoft and the ADB. This collaboration marks Sundosoft as a key partner in the bank's urban climate project.
The innovative system provides visualized data on emissions from buildings and transport infrastructure, leveraging data on building energy consumption and road traffic. This approach allows for a detailed analysis of urban emissions, facilitating more effective planning and decision-making processes.
The pilot programme is set to commence in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan, spanning an initial period of eight months. There are plans to expand the program to other regions within Uzbekistan and potentially to neighboring countries, as stated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of South Korea. This expansion is anticipated to significantly enhance regional efforts in managing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable urban development.
