Shura President Highlights Bahrain’s Commitment to Sovereignty and Peace at Arab Parliament Conference

Manama: Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, reaffirmed Bahrain's dedication to safeguarding state sovereignty and promoting peace during the 8th Conference of the Arab Parliament and Speakers of Arab Councils and Parliaments. The event, held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, was organized by the Arab Parliament in collaboration with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Saleh emphasized the Kingdom of Bahrain's steadfast commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to defend the sovereignty and independence of states. He highlighted Bahrain's support for states' rights to self-determination, progress, and development following international law. The conference, he noted, occurs at a pivotal moment necessitating unified Arab action to protect sovereignty, national security, and the aspirations of Arab peoples for development and stability.

Al Saleh underscored Bahrain's commitment to diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a lasting peace. He stressed the importance of working with international partners to uphold international law while promoting dialogue and regional stability. He elaborated on the indivisibility of Arab states' security and sovereignty, asserting that any violation affects the entire Arab security framework and requires a cohesive Arab response.

The Shura Council Chairman welcomed the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, which establishes a framework for negotiations and a ceasefire. He described this as a significant step towards de-escalation and lasting peace in the Middle East. Al Saleh also praised diplomatic efforts, particularly the mediation by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, in advancing dialogue and peaceful resolutions.

Al Saleh highlighted the need for adherence to international law, respect for state sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs to achieve lasting regional peace. He emphasized the importance of protecting maritime routes and ensuring freedom of navigation. Furthermore, he advocated for enhanced military cooperation among GCC states to reinforce collective security.

Reiterating Bahrain's support for Palestinian rights, Al Saleh called for the establishment of an independent sovereign state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He stressed the importance of delivering humanitarian aid and achieving comprehensive peace in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Addressing digital sovereignty, Al Saleh noted the centrality of knowledge, data, and technology to national sovereignty and security. He urged the development of an integrated Arab cyber security strategy, modern legislation, and effective AI governance to support sustainable development and safeguard digital sovereignty.

Al Saleh commended the conference's document on strengthening Arab digital sovereignty, describing it as a comprehensive vision for legislative development. He expressed pride in participating in the conference and applauded Egypt's role in promoting Arab solidarity.

He also congratulated the Chairman of the Shura Council of Saudi Arabia on his new role as president of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, wishing him success in fostering parliamentary cooperation. Lastly, Al Saleh expressed gratitude to Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, for his efforts in supporting joint Arab action.
