Manama: Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, inaugurated the renovated neonatal intensive care unit at Salmaniya Medical Complex. The refurbishment is part of Government Hospitals' strategy to boost service readiness and create an improved care setting for children.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the event was attended by Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hasan, Minister of Health. Lt. Gen. Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah received a briefing from Government Hospitals officials on the renovation stages, which included infrastructure upgrades, installation of advanced critical-care devices, capacity expansion, and workflow improvements to enhance care quality and response times for critical cases.
The SCH Chairman highlighted that renewing the neonatal intensive care unit is a vital step in advancing paediatric services in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He emphasized that the project is part of broader efforts to elevate the level of care at Salmaniya Medical Complex and improve the quality of health services for citizens and residents.
Dr. Mariam Adhbi Al Jalahma, CEO of Government Hospitals, stated that the upgraded unit will deliver high-quality care for newborns needing intensive care, aligning with international standards. She mentioned that the development underscores Government Hospitals' dedication to modernizing medical facilities and enhancing staff capabilities in accordance with the national health plan and patient needs, supporting efforts to improve patient experience and service quality.
Dr. Al Jalahma further noted that Government Hospitals will persist in implementing additional development projects across various departments to stay aligned with medical advances and ensure safe, high-quality services. The expansion increased the unit's capacity to 28 beds, enhancing its ability to deliver advanced neonatal care. Additionally, six isolation rooms were added, complete with full infection-control measures to ensure a safe environment for newborns and their families.
