Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, chaired a coordination meeting of Bahrain's parliamentary delegation to review preparations for participation in the IPU Assembly, discuss agenda items, and coordinate positions on regional and international issues of common interest, particularly those related to the Iranian attacks.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Speaker affirmed that Bahrain's parliamentary delegation will, during its participation in the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), to be held in Istanbul, Republic of Trkiye, from April 15 to 19, brief parliaments worldwide on the unjustified Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
He highlighted the Parliamentary Division's ongoing efforts to formulate a draft international parliamentary resolution condemning these attacks, building on the unanimous resolution adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council, in response to Bahrain's initiative on behalf of the GCC states and Jordan, and in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2817.
The Speaker underlined that the Iranian attacks constitute a flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, stressing the importance of unifying international parliamentary positions to confront such hostile acts and halt them in a manner that safeguards regional security and stability.
He noted that Bahrain has long been recognised for its commitment to peace, coexistence, respect for state sovereignty, and dialogue, and has never initiated hostility. He expressed pride in the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the backing of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for all efforts that enhance the Kingdom's security, protect its people, and preserve its achievements.
Al Musallam added that the delegation will highlight the targeting of civilian facilities and objects and the serious threat this poses to regional and international security, calling for firm international parliamentary stances to deter such attacks and strengthen efforts to maintain peace and stability.
He affirmed that Bahrain's participation in the IPU Assembly reflects its steadfast approach to supporting joint parliamentary action and fostering dialogue and cooperation among nations, contributing to addressing global challenges and promoting peace and security.
