OIC Secretary General: Displacing Palestinians is Ethnic Cleansing, War Crime

Cairo: Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), participated in the extraordinary Arab League Summit held in Egypt's Administrative Capital. During his address, he strongly condemned statements and plans aimed at displacing the Palestinian people, describing such actions as ethnic cleansing and a war crime that violates international laws and conventions.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the OIC Secretary-General stressed the need for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to continue its operations in Palestine. He highlighted UNRWA's critical role in providing essential support to millions of Palestinian refugees and alleviating worsening humanitarian conditions.

Taha underscored that the escalating crisis surrounding the Palestinian cause requires concrete measures from Arab and Islamic nations to support the Palestinian people against ongoing aggression. He emphasised the urgency of intensifying political and diplomatic efforts to secure a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire that would end bloodshed and pave the way for a permanent resolution.

He also stressed the need for a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, highlighting the urgency of ending the humanitarian crisis caused by ongoing hostilities and the widespread destruction of infrastructure.

The OIC Secretary General called on the international community to intensify efforts toward full recognition of the State of Palestine and its admission as a full member of the United Nations. He also urged stronger international cooperation to implement the two-state solution as the only viable path to ensuring lasting security and stability in the region.

Taha stressed that the current phase demands unified Arab and Islamic action to confront ongoing challenges and mobilise political, economic, and humanitarian support for the Palestinian people. He emphasised the necessity of achieving justice through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
