Manama: On the 16th anniversary of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, Chairperson of the NIHR, highlighted the progress achieved in Bahrain's human rights work, underscoring ongoing institutional efforts based on professionalism and independence. These efforts are aimed at strengthening the Kingdom's human rights framework and promoting justice and equality in line with international standards.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the NIHR was established on November 10, 2009, under a royal initiative by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. His support and guidance have enabled the institution to perform its duties with independence and responsibility, fostering a culture of human rights and protection of freedoms for all. Al Derazi praised the cooperation of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, noting its role in facilitating the NIHR's initiatives and achieving its national goals.
Over the past sixteen years, the NIHR has bolstered its work by receiving complaints, monitoring human rights conditions, conducting field visits, and providing recommendations on related laws and policies. It has also promoted awareness of human rights through training programs and partnerships with academic and community institutions to support a lasting culture of respect for rights and freedoms.
Al Derazi affirmed that the NIHR will continue its efforts to promote and protect human rights in Bahrain through cooperation with relevant authorities. This will support the Kingdom's ongoing development and enhance its regional and international standing. He added that the coming period will see further initiatives and programs to reinforce human rights values in society.
